this was one of those magical moments when i just couldn't believe my eyes... we were half way across a large, flat and dusty lakebed on the way to watch the sun set below the rocky horizon. i had turned to watch the exotic landscape pass by me and i was treated to this wondrous view of a lone 'leg' of silky red sand -- beautifully highlighted by a ray of sunlight. the long shadows that spilled over us and the surrounding ground cast a mystifying violet hue... it was just heavenly! luckily i was able to convince my bedouin guide to stop momentarily for this shot!!

Untouched beauty.... pausing for a moment, can you imagine where each grain of sand has been during the millennia..? and now settled here. Wonderful.

@Observing: wow -- just a wonderfully imaginative and intriguingly contemplative thought!! thanks Mike!! :D
I love the way the entire image is in a sweeping motion. Like a ballet across the frame, lead by those in the subtle red dresses. Okay, the imagination ran wild... but this photo makes anything seem possible!

@bluechameleon: hehe -- thanks BC! it was a beautiful thought you just had, and it made me smile!! the idea of ballet is a wonderful idea and in my opinion, a perfect fit!! :D
Must have been a magical moment and you've captured it really well ... looks divine! Thanks for the pano's, they are beautiful to watch in large format!

It reminds me Tatooine, even if I don't know this planet :-))
Great light for this landscape.

13 Nov 2008 7:49pm
A very beautiful and subtle feel to this image. Soft hues of red and violet and mauve all combine to create the strange union of warmth and chill. And as for the title -- i think you have been in the dessert too long young man!!!! Hehehe couldn't resist saying it!

The nature knows how to amaze us by its beauty, its light, the size of the landscapes.
I imagine the emotion which we have to feel in front of such a panorama !
13 Nov 2008 9:02pm
stunning! i love the layers and as you say the light is perfect and makes the photo - though the landscape itself is gorgeous and that jagged rock in the centre is fabulous and really draws my eye with its purple tone in contrast with the orange of the sand! i am so glad your guide stopped!
13 Nov 2008 11:09pm
beautiful shot dj - I really like the tones and colours and the way the shadows fade away into light.
13 Nov 2008 11:16pm

14 Nov 2008 12:26am
@PD: yep!! i rarely use a tripod!! actually this was a normal shot -- and then i cropped to make a 'pano'... :) will be back on later tonight to finish up my commenting -- was quite busy at work today! ciao!!
this is a wonderfully smooth shot for some reason - all the lines and textures seem to just effortlessly flow one from another... fantastic!
