Beautiful DJ love the soft blue against the ochre
21 Aug 2008 5:26am
oohhhh DJ! Firstly on your image before I ramble, I think it is more a dessert than the desert it looks like beautiful folds of chocolate on the screen, so inviting and yummy! Secondly on your touching words.... I know exactly how you feel and right back at you... being a painter, a drawer and a photographer also, there are moments in all that are thrilling, but how lucky are we to have found such a wonderful place with like minded people where we can share and laugh and praise each day. I took some time to read Jason Kravitz "about" page yesterday and how A-3 actually started and a was totally overwhelmed and dropped him a note to thank him for such a great place and such a great community...and in his words he replied that it had started as a dream, but is fuelled by amazing people who come here to share their world... so true, cheers to you too dear DJ, you make our world a better place :o)

@Kylie Greenan: And yes -- 'Thank You' Kylie for pointing us all to Jason's about page! A fascinating and inspiring 'behind the scenes' of Am3!! :)
@Kylie Greenan: Thank you kindly Kylie!! Thanks (as always) for the faaabulous comments and for being a part of this wonderful experience!! Always a pleasure! :D
Let me join this AM3 cheer team - first by congratulating DJ on his rich first three months here - and in saying how much I also value this experience. And, too to Kylie for this research on Jason Kravitz 'about' page. I won't go there tonight but will read it as soon as I get back home. (Thanks, Kylie)
Now, DJ - on this photograph - wow! The feel of this two color image is surreal. The complex folds of red-browns in the foreground - the vertical sheer on the left - all giving way to that poetic sky of aquas and greys. Just a lush and moving image.
21 Aug 2008 7:00am
@Stephen Phillips: Thanks very much Stephen, your wonderful and kind words are always a pleasure to read and receive, and i am very thankful!! :) And yes -- 'Thank You' Kylie for pointing us all to Jason's about page! A fascinating and inspiring 'behind the scenes' of Am3!!

@Calusarus: Merci a toi Calusarus!! Thank you kindly! :)
You are not only a fabulous travel writer and photographer, not only an adventurer and restless commenter, but you are also a philosopher, DJ! As I am here on Aminus3 almost exactly as long as you are I can understand every word you just wrote.
By the way: The picture is great. Even kind of a favourite from your Jordan series...
21 Aug 2008 10:34am

@Lorraine: Thanks very much for the kind words Lorraine! I couldn't have a better audience than all of you here on this site! Many thanks for the enthusiastic support!! :D
Fantastic again! I guess you can take endless shots in a scenery like that! :) Good composition and foreground.
21 Aug 2008 11:14am
@Thomas Griffioen: Thanks Thomas! And yes -- to be truthful -- it was gorgeous everywhere i looked! i just had to snap the shot! :)
as usual the colours are stunning... and so is the composition!
thanks for your thanks and for expressing so well what most of us feel...
21 Aug 2008 11:29am
@Namaki: thanks very much Namaki! cheers! :D
your presence here helps make am3 a better community, so thanks back to you, dj. your images are surpassed only by your narratives, and i look forward to both every morning.
happy 3 months!
p.s.: i agree with thomas: the foreground really makes this picture, those textures and colors. as always, exceptional!
21 Aug 2008 12:15pm
@paulski: thanks heaps paul! :) such kind and motivational words -- thank you kindly!!!
Happy 3 months past here DJ, I take this opportunity to thank you for your comments always nice and curious, your eyes open for others and their creativity!
this picture really pleases me to the subtle nuances in color and framing that strengthens the volumes.
21 Aug 2008 12:59pm
@Isao: Thank you kindly Isao!! It's been a real pleasure! Thanks again! :)
I really like the crisp foreground. I feel that you were there, your feet on those reddish orange rocks, looking at the distant desert.
21 Aug 2008 1:42pm
Simply beautiful! Great composition, light and color.
21 Aug 2008 2:25pm
this is my favorite of this series - glowing color, amazing depth.
as for your comments - i'm pretty new here, and i really appreciate how quickly you became a regular visitor to my place. it's a big part of what convinced me about am3.
21 Aug 2008 2:40pm
@gbe: kind thanks Grant! and thank you for joining and posting your wonderful captures that i can enjoy each day! :) you just might be seeing me get back into film yet!! :D
A great shot, almost surreal again it could be something from Mars. As far as thanks go, I think you should also be thanked for your consistent, enthusiastic and honest comments. Not just on my shots but on everyone you visit.
21 Aug 2008 2:50pm
@Graham Russon: Sincere thanks Graham! I can honestly say it has been a real pleasure! Thank you kindly again!
Hi Dj another fine example of this amazing place, superb everything !
21 Aug 2008 3:03pm
Amazing how wind can shaperocks... fantastic movement on these gorgeous red coloured rocks...
21 Aug 2008 4:16pm
@Ina: Thank you Ina!! Thanks very much! :)
Apart from the magnificent shots, I must say you have a whole lot more courage than I have. It really looks like you are miles away from civilization.
21 Aug 2008 4:40pm
Fantastic shot. This series is amazing. This almost monochromatic ochre is simply amazing, and the way you caught it... this really makes us think about Star Wars, and the famous Luke Skywalker's race, I think in Episode II.
About your text, I'm speachless. You know, I've been a few years away from this photo world, after a couple of years playing with the old 35mm SLR and now came back, after buying the DSLR, 3 months ago. And has been amusing me a lot, like completing me. So I feel, more or less the same you feel and describe, about this A-3 family.
So, don't thank us. We all have to thank each other for being part of this family. And I, personally, thank you too, for sharing with us the world that you discover!
21 Aug 2008 4:51pm
@Rui: Thanks Rui! Such a wonderful and warm comment and praise! Very well put though -- this community works so well due to all the terrific energy and personal efforts that we all invest! So a big THANKS all around!! And Cheers to you too! :D
Extraordinary image, well framed and with great colors.
21 Aug 2008 5:46pm
And, also, I want to tell you that you are in the plenty of creativity with your photos. And the attention that they receive is a pale feedback of the attention that you pay to us. Cheers.
21 Aug 2008 5:50pm
@Paco Díaz: Thank you kindly Paco! A beautiful comment... I think I am blushing!!! :D
Nice colors and graet composition. Joradania seems to be a really interesting place for photography.
I like your pictures because we frequently can see orange colors. Great!
21 Aug 2008 6:02pm
@bruno: Merci Bruno! :)
Wonderful colors, the lines in the rock detail are strong and interesting. Beautiful!
21 Aug 2008 6:53pm
Great photo! And I couldn't agree more about the people here at Aminus3! Cheers mate.
21 Aug 2008 7:33pm
@Hoshisato: Cheers mate! Thank you kindly! ;)
Happy anniversary ! Cheers !
One thing I'd like to tell : I'm always 'astonished' how 'easily' you write... Congratulations !
Nice colors ! Nice pic !
21 Aug 2008 7:53pm
@Marhilde: Thank you kindly for the well wishes and nice compliment Marhilde! :) Cheers to you!!
...really though, thank you! It's always such a pleasure to see your world, read your words and how I enjoy your visits :)
This image is striking! The minimal colour (which is always a fave of mine) make a strong statement in power and story. Off in the distance, is that mist or dust? Either way...I love that looking far ahead and not being quite sure what may be up there.
21 Aug 2008 8:29pm
@bluechameleon: Gracious thanks BC! And thanks for all the wonderful and inspiring comments / support and for being such a delightful part of the thrill of this daily Am3 adventure!! Cheers to you! :D
another beauty -- your work is a joy to the eyes -what a talent
21 Aug 2008 9:27pm
Another beautiful picture showing the desert with those amazing colors.
22 Aug 2008 12:04am
I totally agree with you on being here on Aminus3. I was on a subscription-based photoblogging service for 2 years, but somehow the culture there was entirely different from Aminus3. And I am happy that we're all 'happy' here! Nice Wadi Rum series, hope you got more! Is your camera ok after a dusty place like the desert?
22 Aug 2008 12:13am
@Howard F.: Howdy Howard and thanks so much for the wonderful comments! I too am glad we are al happy on this site! This is the first site i have been on, but i have heard from so many others that they too have been on a few other sites before they found this one -- and now they are much happier. so yay! :D And yes -- there was a good amount of dust -- but i thought of that in advance and didn't bother to do any lens changes! of course had i really wanted to i am sure i could have worked out a way... there is always some way! :) Cheers!
I wish to whole-heartedly agree with everyone else here that your presence has made a HUGE difference in this community, especially to me. Your generous praise and ability to see things in photos that I can't see for myself are a major part of my day when I log in here.
i want to thank you for the inspiring praise of my near nightly writings
I'm sure that I'm not the only one here at Aminus3 that enjoys your writing immensely. Your vivid descriptions of the photos and of your feelings and sensations surrounding the shot let us all feel like we were the ones taking these wonderful photos in these breathtaking places. My experience here has been beautifully enriched by your presence, as well as that of many others. Thank you very much for sharing your world and your experiences with us DJ!
22 Aug 2008 12:42am
@Eric Fry: Cheers Eric, and thank you kindly for this lovely post! I'm am certainly glad I have been able to give back in some way to this awesome site and community! These weekly comments / replies / interactions w/ you and everyone else has really been such a pleasure and a wonderfully visual learning experience! I am glad you feel the same way in regards to the building excitement with each new day of posting on this site as i do! :)
My destiny (for whatever insane reason) is to travel the world looking for truth through experience -- I wish that everyone had the same opportunities I have been given, to be able to find the truth in their own various and personal styles. And of course, I would love to have you all along w/ me! But i know and appreciate that everyone's lives are different, and everyone must follow their own personal paths. So thank goodness for the internet and sites like Am3, where we can all meet in cyberspace and share the truths we have personally discovered so far! What a wealth of treasure there is to be had -- and we can all be richer! :) Cheers to you!
Wow congratulations Dj. Its been a pleasure going on the journeys you have taken and you take us to with your pictures. I only dare of dreaming to do what you do, to travel and take pictures, without the responsibilities and burdens of adult life. (albeit I've only just begun)
"feel like i have moved from one void of adult life to another... feeling an absence of 'overall creativity' from my daily life" this just captures how I feel. There is the inner artists within me trying to break free. To rebel against the norms and express the very core of ME, the artist is restless unable to break the confines of the very structure of society. Through Am3 and you guys the artist within me gets a window, a glimmer of hope, and for a moment he is at peace.
22 Aug 2008 12:56am
@Carlos Palma: Thanks kindly Carlos! it has been such a real pleasure to begin to get to know you and everyone else! I only wish there was more time in the day! ;) As for your inner artist, i say 'Go For It!'... 'Break Free'...!! We will be here to back you up! Thanks again! :)
I can't think of anything to say that hasn't already been said on these comments today and I definitely agree with all of it! I look forward to your photos and your writings every day and cherish your comments on mine. I'm so glad we both found this wonderful place to share our work, our passions. Cheers to you, dj, cheers to everyone here on Am3 and cheers to that "inner artist" in all of us!
22 Aug 2008 1:45am
@willow: Thanks very much Willow! I am very appreciative! Yes indeed we have both (all) been very lucky to stumble onto this fantastic website! I have enjoyed a riveting 3 months now and yourself and so many others have enjoyed this site for much much longer! Cheers to you and the entire community at Am3!! Bravo! :D
another fantastic composition! i think that since you have joined Am3 your blog has been one of the most popular ones and deservingly so! it underlines the reasons why I joined, to share photos and comments, to learn with others and also to see things and places that I may not otherwise see in real life... keep up the great work!
22 Aug 2008 2:22am
@DarkElf: Sincere thanks Maciek! It has been a real pleasure, thank you for your generous time and wonderful comments and feedback -- i have truly enjoyed seeing Western Australia represented so marvelously! Gives me heartache (as i miss those desert lands and waters) but in the best way! :) Thanks for you part in making this daily experience creative, enthralling and fun!
wonderful texture and colours. I really like the detail in the foreground and the way the sky subtly changes colour. ...any community is only as good and positive as the individuals that make it up. aminus3 is a wonderful place, and you've added to the art, advice, and happiness here :-)
22 Aug 2008 2:53am
@baobab: Many kind thanks to you Baobab!! And you are right -- any community is / can be great if it is made up of wonderful and caring individuals! So thank goodness we have that here!! :) Cheers to you!!
Wonderful textures and colors. I like the hint of a dust storm in the background.
22 Aug 2008 3:03am
Congratulations on three months dj!! I hope you stay around for a looong time! While posting our work on the internet comes with the possibility of people from all over the world to see it Aminus 3 truly brings that possibility to reality. I love that this community is so diverse from all parts of the world.
22 Aug 2008 4:41am
@Teresa: Thank you for the kind wishes Teresa! I hope stay around for a long time too! And I hope Am3 stays around a long time so we all can partake in this marvelous share space! I am delighted at the amazing diversity -- It is one of the best things about this site! Cheers to you! :)
Great work, the composition is very nice very cool textures and colors.
22 Aug 2008 6:13am
excellent perspective, fabulous colour and texture! bravo!
22 Aug 2008 6:14am
Waou! But what say in 52nd position because all the previous comments are laudatory and I also agree.
The spectacle of the nature is grand and often leaves without voice.
22 Aug 2008 7:09am
The glow of desert light is illuminating in everything it touches. The colour in these images you have shown us is incredible, surreal, and is as dramatic as the desert landscape itself.
Well done on reaching your third month of posts, and I share your thoughts on AM3.
22 Aug 2008 7:17am
@Richard_Irwin: Thank you kindly Richard!! Such a pleasure to be apart of this wonderful online community (my first!)... don't know what i was waiting for, so glad i stumbled onto a good site without any prior looking! Thanks for being a wonderful part of what makes this community so supportive and inspiring! Cheers to you! :D
Wonderful shot, nice atmosphere, lovely colours and texture.
22 Aug 2008 7:50am
Dj you do blow us away! the photo is stunning ,i love the soft aqua light in the sky it goes so well against the hard edge of ochre. secondly your words are so true i am sure they echo the thoughts and hearts of many of us but you put it all so eloquently, BRAVO DJ ,3 months of being in the company of like minded people!
22 Aug 2008 8:22am
@Maxine: Thank you kindly Maxine! :D I do love it here and am so happy to see that my sentiments are echoed throughout -- what wonderful possibilities for us all then! A true and artistic community! We should celebrate! :)
I am honoured Mr DJ to get a first glimpse... well, about 56th glimpse... after everyone else... like all your 'travel' photos... makes me to want to be selfish... tell my boss what for and just take off... me and my camera (Oh I will drag the hubby along too... hehehe...) great shot
22 Aug 2008 11:54am
@Fliss: Thanks heaps Fliss! I hope you guys do get to Colorado after all -- and i hope your current situation has improved? Is it still raining cats and dogs and turtles and frogs? ;) We all deserve as much time off as we need to travel the globe... Unfortunately it probably won't ever get handed to us... so seize the day! (and the camera too! :D
Love the colors, the mood, the framing -- you do excellent work in all these respects consistently. Glad the community's working out for you, I"m enjoying it too. Love getting these rare glimpses into far corners of the world, you've got a great eye.
22 Aug 2008 3:06pm
@Kurt: Hello and thank you kindly Kurt! :) Yes - Am3 has changed up my life quite a bit, if only in terms of enjoying each day quite a bit more -- but i have this funny feeling these minor changes that i am feeling are only the ripples of something much larger to come -- and it feels good! Glad you also feel the same! Cheers!
I want to be there - excellent image my friend
22 Aug 2008 3:45pm
This, my friend, is stunning! The framing is fantastic as the rocks lead the eye to mid ground where we find that interesting rock in the center. The foreground has interest as well, with the low tilt of the camera allowing us to see the texture of the "path." The color of the sky is a study in understated pastels and the rocks are a bold, earthy color, complimenting hue. I am thoroughly impressed!
22 Aug 2008 4:34pm
@Tracey: Thanks so much Tracey!! I must have skipped over this photo for months -- I hadn't really looked at it as the features and colors were much more subtle than the brighter captures with bright wild reds and oranges. So glad i went back for another look! Once i had done some minor post processing, I realized that i had been sleeping! :) Thanks for your wonderful and enthusiastic response!!
Very inspiring words. I too have reached a fork in my life & as I've only been a member for a couple weeks it's nice to know that this community exists to help me express myself. Happy 3 month anniversary!
A beautiful shot. The soft pastel colours in the sky work well with the rich earthy colours and textures are simply wonderful.
22 Aug 2008 5:50pm
@Mala: Thank you kindly for the wonderful comment and thoughts Mala! I hope you find the same wonderful outlet for creativity, support and inspiration as i have! Welcome again to Am3! Great to have you here! :)
My favourite of the series. Absolute stunner. The colours, composition and the way it fades off in the distance.
22 Aug 2008 5:53pm
I want to say "Thank You" for taking the time and effort to share your photos and insight behind them. You have a way with words and artistic vision.
This is an exceptional photo. I love the alien color and terrain, at least alien to one who has never been there to see it in person. This is a gorgeous photo.
22 Aug 2008 6:16pm
@Laurie: Thanks very much for the kind words Laurie! We are so lucky to have this wonderful site to communicate and share out lives and creativity on! Cheers to you for your time and investment and being part of this inspiring community! :)
Very striking colours and great composition that really draws the eye into the frame.
22 Aug 2008 7:50pm
I will only accept a thanks if you accept the same from me. Community is built through being good to each other, and contributing as much as you can when you can.
That being said, I am completely compelled by this series. I am blown away by deserted... and mysterious areas -- compelling and beautiful.
23 Aug 2008 7:40am
@Terre Mavix Chartrand: Thanks kindly Terre! And yes, you are on! :) I will happily swap thanks with you! Thanks for being a wonderful part of each day of planning, posting, blogging and commenting -- i really enjoy our ongoing dialogue!! (and the automatic writing was awesome, by the way!!) :D Cheers to you!!
Superbe utilisation du grand angle... Superbe endroit... Superbe lumière....
23 Aug 2008 1:18pm
What I like first about your work is that it shows me places I had not even previously imagined. And I appreciate the narrative. Even when my impressions are different from yours, it helps me as a photographer to read what others thought and felt as they (1) took shots and (2) later looked at them. Of course, the quality of your photos makes it all first rate.
thanks for the kind comments on my silo photo. The compositional "x" jumped out at me as I was taking the shot. The texture was gravy.
23 Aug 2008 9:07pm
Wow, what a mass of comments. You don't need another one to answer.
24 Aug 2008 6:41pm
Wow, that's one whole lot of comments! But you deserve it! This picture looks like something from Mars, maybe? Nice work!
25 Aug 2008 10:35pm
@Josh: Thanks Josh -- yes, exploring the southern deserts of Jordan was like being on Mars... it was spectacular! :)
Exquisite: spot on color and composition.
26 Aug 2008 4:55pm
I really loved your Wadi Rum series! So many great places to visit on this beautiful earth and so little time! Luckily we can 'visit' all these places on your photoblog!
1 Sep 2008 1:53pm
Cette photo me rappelle mon périple de 3 semaines sur la Côte ouest des Etats-unis. c'était génial.
Très jolie photo
