Stone & Mortar, Bangkok Grand Palace, Thailand

Posted by dj.tigersprout (New York City, United States) on 7 June 2008 in Cityscape & Urban.

Having arrived into Thailand for a mates wedding, a friend and I toured the Grand Palace and some of the other famous temples to get a taste of the local, historical culture and to acclimatize ourselves with the heat and humidity before heading to our island paradise in the south. Amongst all the exquisite gold, silver and glitz of the royal temples, i found myself focusing on the beautiful imperfections that i feel often go unnoticed -- such as this small section of the courtyard that caught my eye... Walked on over by millions of feet a year, and worn quite smooth to the touch i became mesmerized by the whimiscal patterning of hand laid stone and mortar that was undergoing the beginnings of urban decay.
