@Evi: thank you! the colors of Wadi Rum are intense and amazing... i was in heaven!
@bruno: thank you! Wadi Rum is now one of my favorite deserts because of all the deep fiery hues.
Incredible colours, that is quite a scene, fantastic.

@Richard_Irwin: Thanks very much... I loved the desert of Wadi Rum which is considered at 'national park' status for Jordan. Simply amazing rock formations, hundreds of miles of red sands and amazing canyons and valleys.
wonderful & colorful shot !!! Great composed with nice forgraund ! excellent !

@Helma: Thank you! When i came across these parallel rock lines i knew i need to create a shot with them in it!
@Shaahin: Thank you!!
Hi DJ - another colourful and interesting photo. Hope yoy don't mind if I say it would be improved if the horizon was level (umm...horizontal) as we would see it in real life?
28 May 2008 12:50pm
@dobbino: Hey, thanks for the feedback! But does the horizon really appear to you to be crooked? The red sand doesn't extend all the way to the horizon, there is a dry white lakebed that extends a good distance to the mountains in the background. So i can see that it might appear to be crooked if you go by the red line of sand. Was that it? If not, please let me know. Cheers.
@Lorraine: Thanks you kindly! I have a few other shots coming up from the same desert... and then i back posted a few through out the beginning of may if you want to see others regions of the same desert.
@Daroru: Yes, i was quite curious as to who had made these parallel lines myself... most likely a group of previous tourists or maybe even bedouins... there was evidence that someone had camped nearby. And as simple as the design was, i found the combination of the rock lines and the red sand striking.
nice capture; love the deep red of the sand. well done...

@paulski: thank you! yes, the sands in the deserts of jordan are white, yellow, tan, orange and deep red... as i had never seen red sand before, i was mesmerized! :)
Hi again - see what you mean. When I put it into PS, the adjustment is so fine that it's not worth worrying about. Just an optical illusion.

@dobbino: No worries, i appreciate the feedback regardless! Thanks! :)
Title is perfect... but where is Lawrence of Arabia ? :-)
Stunning colours indeed?
28 May 2008 4:59pm
@zOOm: Hehe..! I think Lawrence lifted off with the Martian space-ship! :) But yes, he worked out of this area... we saw a cave he was reported to have lived in and then we were taken to a different area that was close to this where not only was the movie filmed, but was an area he was well known for working with the bedouin in. I certainly got a bit of a history lesson!
@Alun Lambert: Thank you!
What a simple yet powerful photo. I like the rich orange of the sand and how it contrasts the blue sky.
28 May 2008 5:56pm
@johnnyanne: Many thanks for the comment! The surrounding was simply beautiful... reddish orange sands and blue skies made me feel like i was on mars or something!
@Thomas Griffioen: Many thanks! Cheers.
@shahab: Many thanks! As happy as i am with the picture, it still doesn't compare with the 360 degree real experience... alas! But having the picture to remind me now that i am back to work is a nice compensation! :)
@Stefan: Thank you!
Incredible colors and frame ! The rocks on first plan look like a dead scorpion, increasing the drama of the scene !
28 May 2008 7:32pm
@pierre: Many thanks! My first thought when i saw all the red sand was that i had landed on Mars! I was blown away! Then i saw these rocks all lined up like a landing strip and i knew it was true! :)
great landscape scene, i like the tones on that sand, great work with the guiding lines.

@pedro alexandre: Thank you kindly!
Colors of sand are fantastic. I LOVE desert and you make me think that it miss me a lot....
28 May 2008 9:39pm
@Evelyne Dubos: hello and thank you! hmm... maybe it is time for you to take another trip to the desert? :) where is your next travel destination?
Hi, dj... Thank you for your visit .
this is really an amazing landscape, with great colors... a desert of paprika... :))
and I will say like Pierre, on the thumbnail, I believed to see a scorpion...
28 May 2008 10:44pm
@Francesc B.: thank you! i will have to check out the thumbnail to try and see what you both saw. i actually didn't see hardly any insects... a few stink bugs... but that is it. :)
You have some awesome collections my friend, I wonder how my humble photos interest you.
Well done on all the color and perspective. If you need help with HDR please feel free to let me know dear. I wrote you in response to your questions regarding couple of previous shots, hope that helps.
29 May 2008 12:17am
@Persian King: Thank you kindly! :) Will check out your responses and will hit you up with further questions (if you don't mind) regarding HDR when i finally get there! Much appreciated!
@akarui: Thanks very much!!! Cheers.
This is a great photo. The lighter portion of the sand makes it appear that the "rock creature" is climbing out of a murky body of water and crawling across the sandy beach.
29 May 2008 3:04pm
@Wendysworks: Awesome! And all i originally saw was 2 lines of rocks! Looks like i need to work on my imagination a bit! :) Thanks for the comment!
One general rule of photography is to not place the horizon at the center of an image. This photo breaks that rule very successfully. There is a deep sense of place here. A fabulous use of composition and light.
29 May 2008 3:48pm
@Fogguy: Thanks very much! I must admit, i have never heard that general rule... although in retrospect, and in regards to what i have learned through my photographic results i can see that it would quite often make sense... Does it have something to do with a 'flattening' of proportions and dimension in general? I am curious. Much appreciated.
the title of the post works well here, great colors

@lissa: Thank you!
superb composition, i love the hue of the sand and the lines of rocks leading away into the distance...
30 May 2008 6:13am
@DarkElf: Kind Thanks!
fantastic shot. The colors are striking together.
30 May 2008 6:15pm
@lucie: Thank you! Wadi Rum as nothing but striking colors... i wish i could have captured everything that i saw!
stunnig image! great perspective! the colours are amazing....
8 Sep 2008 5:11pm
@Magda: Thanks Magda! Wadi Rum was intensely beautiful -- reds, oranges, yellows sands, violet and crimson skies at sunset... amazing! :)
My mom just got back yesterday from Jordan and Israel. I can't wait to see her pictures! It looks like an amazing place.
