Under the Skyway to Staten Island, Brooklyn, NYC

just returning to post a shot taken this weekend on the waters edge in southern Brooklyn... the Verrazano-Narrows bridge stretches across the lower east river over to Staten Island in the distance. the height of this bridge simply dwarfs everything in the area... its massive form and the ominous yet marvelous shadow it throws across land and water is simply spectacular!

to my dear friends & family here at AM3 -- not sure how much longer i will be around, as you may have noticed, i am seldom online anymore... ;) between the photo workshop (we just had our 4rth meeting with 5 members!!) and the work i am doing on my own, i have come to the conclusion that i no longer want to upkeep a daily photoblog. i am moving towards a site where i can simply store a portfolio and a guest book should visitors want to leave a message.

i have REALLY REALLY enjoyed and benefited immensely from the last 1.75 years here with all of you and i THANK YOU kindly (and VERY sincerely!!!!) for all the fun, the chats, the wonderful comments, advice, inspiration and the friendships for these past 21 marvelous months. but in my evolution, i have switched to 'chasing' the professional side of photography and all my time is now spent working towards that goal, whether it be research, seeking jobs and contacts or simply further work and planning. so in order to do that i will be moving on very soon. however, i will still post shots for a little while to come, until i find exactly what i am looking for. (if any of you have any ideas for me 'portfolio' site wise -- i would be most appreciative), thank you in advance!!!! :)

if i have your email, and you are interested in following my progress here in NYC i will happy still send out updates as to what is next for me. so if you have not received emails from me in the past and you would like to be on my list please leave me your personal email address and i will update my records.

again, my time and experiences on this site have been wondrous and eye-opening in the best of ways and it has brought me to where i currently stand and i am so grateful to all of you!! i certainly won't forget any of it!!!

i wish all of you the very best -- and i hope to still be in touch with as many of you who are interested!!! :) the time is hopefully coming again soon where i will be traveling around quite a bit, and i am always delighted to catch up and meet face to face in as many different locations and countries as it is possible!!! :) please keep my email address as i would certainly be interested in knowing the latest news with each of you too -- photo-wise and life-wise!!

god bless my friends!!! may the light always shine brightly in your eyes, in your lives and in your lenses!!! keep on chasing the perfect photos!!! that is what i will be doing too!

i will definitely send a more proper 'goodbye' email within the week... so look out for that!

Btw: I am thinking about some changes, too. I feel as if I am not able to post a high-quality shot everyday. That's why it might change my posting schedule. I need to think about that a bit more...

In my experience the pressure of posting a photo every day makes you better, something I have observed in my own photography as in other people's photos. So please don't rob yourself of our creative (and slightly competitive) game here, you might miss it and we will miss you too! Whatever you want to do: I wish you all the best on your decisions!

This is a magnificent image, JC! For what it's worth, my advice to you would be to do whatever feels right for you at the time - just don't delete your account here on Am3. You have made a huge investment in the site - both with your photos and with all the comments you have made on other contributors' images. If you sometime find that you have a particular image that you want to share, then your friends here will enjoy it. But I do understand where you are at present, and respect that totally. But I'm looking forward to the next image, whenever that may be. As they say in South Africa - "Hamba kahle"(Go well)!

PS - we definitely will miss you. Having read your statement, I think that I understand most of your feelings. It is the international community more than the photography that keeps me on Am3. The friendships are very special. I certainly have received much more than I have given. Personally, I don't feel drawn for myself to Facebook or flickr. I have thought about creating a website. When it comes to commenting, what I would like to do photographically is limit myself to commenting on no more than 10 photographs a day, and doing a much more thorough job with those photographs. If it were not for the community and the friendships, that is exactly what I would do. But I am not there yet. Godspeed.

wow! excellent composition and i love the smooth gradients and colour tones that you captured here - the exposure is spot one! a bridge to take you to another place in a way - it feels a bit like it after reading your thoughts under the picture...

Such disheartening news to hear. But it only means that good things are happening and better things are in the works. Your photography always took me to places so remote and unrecognizable, yet intriguing and eye-catching at the same time. Keep us updated on your portfolio.
