Hofn StreetsPosted by dj.tigersprout (New York City, United States) on 28 September 2009 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. at the edge of this small icelandic town, empty, silent streets spill towards the nearby water. a major fishing town of less than 2000 people, we may have counted less than 20 during the 12 hours we spent here. all around us was vast open space and a beautiful silence -- not a tree, not even a bird -- and the light was simply extraordinary. all work protected by Creative Commons

Linerberry from Sumner, Christchurch, New ZealandSpooky and surreal!!! Slendid shot dj...you really captured the silence!!! 28 Sep 2009 5:10am Seb! from Cévennes, FranceNice compo... agree with Linerberry... you captured the silence ;-) 28 Sep 2009 6:34am Mirko Herzner from Mühlheim am Main, GermanySimplicity and solitude combined with the strong processing make this an outstanding image! 28 Sep 2009 6:53am @Mirko Herzner: thanks Mirko!! :) zOOm from Paris, FranceI love the contrasts between this luminous sky and pavement and road so dark. They seem to be lava made. 28 Sep 2009 9:41am grouser from Ludlow, United KingdomInteresting composition DJ with a certain bleak end of the line charm to it. One could just lift off into the light 28 Sep 2009 10:55am @grouser: thanks mate -- yes, in iceland, a man can just disappear into the landscape... its magical! Mike from Lichfield, United KingdomI don't know what you think DJ but although the place must be wonderful to visit, I think I'd find it a little bit depressing to live there. 28 Sep 2009 11:21am @Mike: thanks Mike -- yeah, i don't know... it was certainly so quiet... it added to the stark cold. i am sure in summer or spring even, it would be a bit more lively. it was cold -- barren and cold! but beautiful too!! cheers! MadScientist from Düsseldorf, GermanyIndeed an extreme sight! Not sure if I would spend my whole life there, but a visit certainly would be a remarkable experience. 28 Sep 2009 11:55am Monique from Koh Samui, ThailandFor a couple of days I wouldn't mind staying here, but I'm afraid I would get depressed living there permanently ... too silent, too empty, too cold, too dark ;) but the photo is great! 28 Sep 2009 12:34pm @Monique: thanks Monique!! yes -- it would be very interesting for me to try -- but then all of iceland is full of silence... once you arrive, it kind of steals into you -- turning your spirit inside-out... pretty soon, it seems as if it has always been deeply quiet, intimately aware... life like a long meditation! ;) john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United StatesExcellent detail. Wonderful tones. 28 Sep 2009 2:46pm Steven from Chicagoland, United StatesGreat clarity in the capture and I like the subtle reveal of the range in the background. 28 Sep 2009 3:31pm Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesThis is perhaps the best place to learn the ways of Minimalism in photography? But what does that sign say? 28 Sep 2009 8:38pm @dobbino: thanks Rob!! its a sign that indicates that there is a hostel / guest house located there. it is probably the sign for the one we slept in -- which was located behind where i was standing! :) k@ from Paris, FranceIt's the tone I prefer the most here, silverish !
