Hofn Streets

at the edge of this small icelandic town, empty, silent streets spill towards the nearby water. a major fishing town of less than 2000 people, we may have counted less than 20 during the 12 hours we spent here. all around us was vast open space and a beautiful silence -- not a tree, not even a bird -- and the light was simply extraordinary.

I don't know what you think DJ but although the place must be wonderful to visit, I think I'd find it a little bit depressing to live there.

@Mike: thanks Mike -- yeah, i don't know... it was certainly so quiet... it added to the stark cold. i am sure in summer or spring even, it would be a bit more lively. it was cold -- barren and cold! but beautiful too!! cheers!

Indeed an extreme sight! Not sure if I would spend my whole life there, but a visit certainly would be a remarkable experience.

For a couple of days I wouldn't mind staying here, but I'm afraid I would get depressed living there permanently ... too silent, too empty, too cold, too dark ;) but the photo is great!

@Monique: thanks Monique!! yes -- it would be very interesting for me to try -- but then all of iceland is full of silence... once you arrive, it kind of steals into you -- turning your spirit inside-out... pretty soon, it seems as if it has always been deeply quiet, intimately aware... life like a long meditation! ;)

@dobbino: thanks Rob!! its a sign that indicates that there is a hostel / guest house located there. it is probably the sign for the one we slept in -- which was located behind where i was standing! :)

The emptiness you captured along with your description of this place reminds me of a scene right out of a sciFi movie. Definitely a fascinating image, love the light radiating from the sky and the vastness of this setting. One can feel the silent mood in this superb composition.
