Quantum Facetime, Minneapolis, MinnesotaPosted by dj.tigersprout (New York City, United States) on 7 September 2009 in Art & Design and Portfolio. haha -- ok, i lied. :P i said a few weeks ago that i would post twice a week and yet i have only been posting shots once a week! LOL. well truthfully this once a week deal is actually working out perfectly for me -- now i have all the time to do what it is that i do here in NYC and still take part in this beautiful community here at Am3!!! :) also -- are any of you registered at onexposure.com? if so, let's hook up!! i just opened an account a month ago, but haven't really got around to setting it up yet... i am in the process of psyching myself up to submit a photo or two! wish me luck!! and if you haven't joined, check out the site and see if you want to! the work on there is simply mind blowing! have a look! **regarding work flow in PS: i upload the raw / jpg file through adobe camera raw, adjusting exposure, temperature and tints, highlights, shadows, contrast and clarity and finally saturation before opening into PS workspace. from there i usually sharpen the photo in LAB, and then set about doing color correction and general 'blemish' healing before moving onto further contrast / brightness modification and working with levels. finally i will work with hue / saturation and color balance and then process the shot for any remaining noise. sometimes i may choose to do additional sharpening at the end... but recently i have not. i am learning that the more you work with different 'schemes', and work flow orders, the more you will come up with a process entirely your own -- which will yield entirely different styles! pretty darn cool! cheers to you all! :) all work protected by Creative Commons

Mindy | f-stopMarin from United StatesThis blew me away. I started to analyze it for what it was and how you achieved this first-rate image. But I decided to give that up and just enjoy it. 7 Sep 2009 5:17pm @Mindy | f-stopMarin: thanks very much for the visit and comment Mindy! :) mostly this photo is a reflection of a vintage film still projected onto the mirror-like surfaces of the Guthrie Museum in Minneapolis. i converted to black and white and then 'went to town' on small enhancements and modifications using layers and color toning and tinting to add more depth than was originally present. thanks again and happy labor day weekend! :) Luis A. De Jesus R. from Mexico City, MexicoOnce a week is fine, and I know what you mean about time. The same happens to me and I might go on for two weeks without posting anything. I've been busy these days with my new photoblog. Thanks for the details on the pp. Funny how we end up doing more or less the same, but in a different order or fashion. Also thanks for the heads up on exposure. Will check it out. Great image, by the way. 7 Sep 2009 5:51pm @Luis A. Monique from Koh Samui, ThailandLike a jigsaw with great colors, excellent! Thank you for sharing the post processing! 8 Sep 2009 5:06am @Monique: thanks Monique!! and i agree w/ you 100% about 1x being more about post processing than photo -- i have come to that same conclusion. of course there are some simply superb photos / and artists of course... but much of it is a post processing display... which is amazing in an entirely different arena!! still -- for me, it seems a nice challenge -- and will hopefully get me to a new stage of processing!! thanks for the good luck wishes!! i will need them!! all the best to you!! :) Dulcie from Danville, CA, United StatesAn image of depth and complexity. Welcome back!! :) Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesIs this the result of your cool workflow or is this part of the wall? Any case, I like it because of the various color that makes up one person. And~ is this Obi-Wan (Alec Guinness)? 8 Sep 2009 4:42pm @Howard F.: thanks Howard -- both i would say -- mostly it is the mirrored surface adding the warping... i added a richer processing, more depth and all the additional colors. :) cheers!! @willow: thanks Willow!! :) @Steve Rice: thanks Steve!! peter from new york, United Statessuch an intriguing shot mate! i really love it. glad to see you're still posting, if only once a week! i start my new job next week and will be working in midtown. we're due for a pint! 8 Sep 2009 7:50pm @peter: yes we are due!! :) best of luck starting the new job -- hit me up when your schedule settles -- i am getting busier by the second but will of course find time to fit you in!! we gotta chat!! speak soon! @manel: thanks Manel!!! Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United StatesHey Jaycee - thanks for the visit, or uh, visits... It is always great to hear from you and this posting just speaks to the creative fellow you are. I love this. I seem to reference back to the images on that first Alaska trip you took. The writing and the story were compelling - with the imagery just a good show. Ever since then - your photography just notches further and further up the creative ladder. Keep 'em coming my friend! 9 Sep 2009 3:18am @Stephen Phillips: thanks very much Stephen!! always great to hear from you mate!! :) yes -- it has been a crazy evolution from using disposable cameras in 2005 to buying a nikon coolpix point and shoot in may of 2007, and then purchasing the canon rebel in december of that same year... now it has been nearly 2 years with the rebel and i am feeling way overdue for an upgrade!! :P my explorations with photoshop have made 2009 a journey in and of itself, although i didn't do any international traveling per say... i can only imagine what 2010 holds!! thanks as always for the kind words, your friendship and constant support!!! i am very appreciative! cheers to you Stephen!!! thanks heaps mate!! :D shoti from Everywhere in the, Philippinesis that a reflection? fantastic colors! beautifully framed! I suggest you put a person in the frame, I think it'll be much more interesting that way. nevertheless, wonderful work JC ma men! 9 Sep 2009 8:41am @shoti: thanks Shoti!!! actually -- funny you mention having people in the shot -- i had a few in some of the other shots i took -- will have to go back and look at those!! thanks!! :) Mike from Lichfield, United KingdomI'm registered on onexposure but as yet have had all of my work rejected. Having said that, I haven't tried posting anything for around 6 months so maybe my latest work will meet with their approval. I do have a slight issue though with somebody else telling me in their opinion if my work is good enough however I can see why they do it to keep the quality up. I may consider trying the site again. 9 Sep 2009 11:00am @Mike: yes -- come back and try again!! :) i will try and find you! see you there!! Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesI was on onexposure wayyyyy bak when they first started. They contacted me and asked me to join so I did. I left after a little bit though and haven't been back. I don't know how it functions now but I found it generally snobby and sometimes they got downright rude and even nasty with some of the feedback, not so much toward me, but I just didn't care for the attitude of some towards certain members. Maybe they are less arrogant now or have become more diplomatic? Anyway I wish you luck. 9 Sep 2009 3:10pm @Laurie: hello Laurie!! thanks very much for this info -- very good to know! :) Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesOh I forgot to mention...the ironic thing about onexposure I noticed from the start is that when they contacted me they submitted to me which of my photos had caught their attention. So I submitted them. The irony came when 3 out of 4 of those same images were rejected...I was confounded. 9 Sep 2009 3:13pm @Laurie: yes -- that is quite odd. i haven't submitted yet myself, so will keep all this in mind. thanks again!! Michael Rawluk from Williams Lake, BC, CanadaVery cool. It is like a still from the movie '1984.' 9 Sep 2009 4:01pm @Michael Rawluk: thanks Michael -- maybe it is? i don't know... but i do feel like i know this face from somewhere... would that be '1984'? Andrew Gould from Sydney, Australia, AustraliaA wonderful, intense looking image. Onexposure looks an interesting site. good luck with it. (I won't try, as it appears they're not interested in absolute realism at all.) 11 Sep 2009 1:39am Magda from Vancouver, CanadaIt turned out fabulous! A lot of work but so worth the time! :) The effect is very special - what a treat to the eye! :)) 11 Sep 2009 3:58pm @Magda: thanks heaps Magda!! :) Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesSometimes all I know is that the original image has some potential but it's not the image I want. I've spent two or three hours at times playing with an image and trying to get it to be what I feel it should be, but can't precisely define until I see it. 16 Sep 2009 9:57pm @Twelvebit: yes that is the way i feel about photos too -- i often leave those sorts of photos alone until the idea dawns on me -- either that or i am feeling a bit rambunction and ready for some experiemental work in PS. :) this is a perfect example -- i shot this 2.5 years ago... and didn't bother processing until just recently!! cheers mate! Bob Towery from Granite Bay, United StatesVery cool image. The lines, curves, expression, color, it's all wonderful. This is one to be proud of. 20 Sep 2009 10:47pm @Bob Towery: thanks very much Bob!! sorry for the late reply! `Paul from Minneapolis, United Statesahhh, i missed this one .. well of course i know where this was taken! .. nice shot of the guthrie. 26 Oct 2009 5:24pm @`Paul: cheers mate! maybe i can ask you then -- who is this guy? and is this always on display? such an intriguing projection -- i think i took at least 10 different shots of this while i was there!! :) `Paul from Minneapolis, United States.. yep, he's always on display there, since the theater was named after him.. his name is "Guthrie" (but I forgot his first name) . .and that's a mighty fine building.. glad you got a chance to see MPLS :) 26 Oct 2009 6:50pm @`Paul: thank you (!) for solving the mystery -- i simply adore the museum, and this amazing and proud projection of him on the front exterior is so moving! surely a beautiful building and collection -- and in such an amazing location too! loved all that riverfront property!! cheers mate!! |
