a Walk to Land's End, Vik, Southern Iceland

bathed in a winter's weak, yellow, twilight, the large disc of the sun suspended just above the ocean's flat horizon, we walked the beautifully quiet, black sand beach to the furthest point possible -- Land's End.

Those rocks like sculpture and those tracks seeming to lead the way. Such a foreign land, an entirely different feel from anything I've ever known. This is truly amazing.

What a majestic site, so appealing and foreboding at the same time. Gorgeous black sand (perhaps revealing its volcanic origin?). Absolutely breathtaking. Great composition and light!

@Emilio Garcia: thanks Emilio!! yes -- most of iceland is covered by lava... especially in the south where this beach is. black sand is common enough in iceland... i find it mesmerizing!! :)

Beautiful scene Jaycee. Almost looks like the Oregon Coast with the huge monoliths. But no black sand in Oregon. Gorgeous picture.

The black sand gives a very majestic look to the image - almost surreal, like another planet. The sweeping beach against calm waters is an added bonus. Great image!

A desolate, yet powerful-looking locale with the rock formations that tower out of the water. I don't know if I have ever seen black sand before.

i find black sand beaches so interesting and intriguing. i also like how the two jetting rocks are a reflection of the couple walking. nice one man! as for this weekend, i may be able to meet up sunday night. am considering going to boston for mother's day but still not sure yet. will let you know : )

The Icelandic sand is so incredibly black. It's sort of like California's blue sky, making any shot into a postcard shot.
