Defunct Jetty On Ward's Island, East River, NYCPosted by dj.tigersprout (New York City, United States) on 6 May 2009 in Cityscape & Urban. one of the first images i took of new york -- a 6 mile walk from Astoria up across the Triboro bridge, and then onto Ward's Island... from here we crossed the green bridge visible in the distance onto upper east side and walked down FDR drive to the Queensborough bridge (east 59th street) where we hopped a train home. it was lovely. all work protected by Creative Commons

@Yvonne S.: thanks Yvonne! @Stunner: thanks Stunner! Mirko Herzner from GermanyWith your words and pictures you really give us the feeling that you enjoy your new home... Fine colors for this shot. 6 May 2009 6:11am @Mirko Herzner: thanks Mirko -- and oh i DO!! :) this place is a little bit of heaven for me. sure it is big and sometimes a bit overwhelming and quite classical... still there are small and quickly growing niches of alternative flavors and styles... and it is these small niches that make this city such an interesting place!!! Zing from Hamilton, New ZealandI love the sky, wonderful composition, great shot! 6 May 2009 6:16am @Zing: thanks Zing -- i have wished for a while to have some cool cloud cover to photograph!! NYC has answered my request!!! the clouds here are often spectacular!!! :) Paco Díaz from Palma de Mallorca, SpainThis is an unusual and unseen corner of NYC, very good one. I like the angle and colors of the composition. 6 May 2009 6:38am @Paco Díaz: thanks Paco!! i will eventually get around to the more known sites -- but NYC has so many different neighborhoods... and unique never before seen places. since i journey through these areas on a weekly basis, i am trying to bring those to the fore! :) Bill Jennings from Bay Area Northern Calif, United Statesgreat angles and superposition of circles and lines. NY is so picturesque with your camera and skills. 6 May 2009 6:51am @Bill Jennings: cheers Bill! :) i am trying to capture the smaller moments, the more personal moments of a big city like NYC. maybe i am trying to also sell the idea that a crazy huge city like this is also a VERY livable place. i know many get put off by the thought of moving here -- but it is truly divine and it can be a slow or fast as you want it to be! it is truly incredible -- and everything is right here at your fingertips! MadScientist from Düsseldorf, GermanyImpressive shot with these remnants of former decades and the spreading city in the background. 6 May 2009 7:55am @MadScientist: thanks MS!!! yes -- i was surprised at how lovely the atmosphere was... we were far from the city as it is normally portrayed... but i was wonderful indeed! Steven from Chicagoland, United StatesSounds like you did a lot of walking! I like the perspective here with the contrails that are converging on the skyline you have captured here. 6 May 2009 3:21pm @Steven: it was nice -- and went quick... it was a warm up to the 15 mile walk we would accomplish 2 weekends later!!! :) @dobbino: thanks Rob -- i loved the glassiness of the water that day -- everything was so still! I particularly like the line of cut off supports (or whatever they are) that leads the eye from the foreground, into the scene. 7 May 2009 4:35am DarkElf from Perth, Australiagood subtle and somewhat muted colours that seems to emphasise the destructive and abandoned feel of what remains from the bridge... 7 May 2009 4:49am callemie from Belgiumnonono not sour at all 7 May 2009 4:50am bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaOh this is nice...seems to be the best of both worlds.
