the Norwegian Blues (Tromsdalen, Arctic Circle)Posted by dj.tigersprout (New York City, United States) on 30 March 2009 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. i took this shot from between the long metal bars of the bridge railing that spans the inlet that separates the city of Tromso from the neighborly township of Tromsdalen. it was the final moments of twilight on the last day before my departure for Oslo and i had gone for a considerable walk, camera and tripod in hand, loving the crisp crunch of icy snow that lay 3 inches deep on most of the downtown city streets -- and much thicker in the residential areas. just past 2pm, the 4.0 hours of twilight at this high arctic latitude was quickly fading, bathing the city and landscape in blue hues, a daily, wondrous phenomenon throughout winter that marked the beginning of another fast approaching 20 hours of night. in about 4 hours, the aurora borealis would weave lazily across the skies in long green whimsical bands -- what an incredible world experience!! all work protected by Creative Commons
