It's kind of weird to be viewing it from the other end of the earth in sunshine and warmth. 30 Dec 2008 5:22am Monique from Koh Samui, ThailandSpectaculair colors DJ! The blues are captivating...I can feel the cold! 30 Dec 2008 3:17pm Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesStunning! The landscape looks so cold and forbidding yet magical. 30 Dec 2008 3:34pm hugo poon from hong kong, Hong KongYes, it's cold but the mood is so serene! Thanks for sharing such precious moment Jaycee! 30 Dec 2008 4:20pm willow from Chelsea, United StatesThe texture in the foreground changes everything in relation to yesterday's image. It has much more of a sense of motion or activity - almost like you can feel the glacier expanding. Beautiful. 30 Dec 2008 4:24pm baobab from Cambridge, United Statesgreat angle - I really like the way the looming sense of scale in this shot contrasts with yesterday's wide panorama. btw, I'm starting out with a city scene or two - our time in Reykjavik didn't have great light, but the city was interesting (from a photographic perspective) nonetheless. 30 Dec 2008 4:31pm @baobab: winter in those northern latitudes can be dreary to some indeed, gray as they sometimes are... but the farther up you go the more beautiful it gets!! the skies are so cold that they remain mostly clear letting in the bright mid latitude glows from the horizon... everything on the ground is blue-violet and then then sky changes all sorts of magnificent colors!!! :) baobab from Cambridge, United Statesanother question / comment... from your treatment I am guessing that for you it appeared the snow in Iceland had the same weird violet tint I saw? It's a really different shade from the more typically grey/bright white snow in Boston - perhaps it's due to Iceland's high latitude and the sun's shallow angle? 30 Dec 2008 4:34pm @baobab: yes -- exactly right! there was no yellow light -- so you get only blue and violet tones! some people want to change the colors because they feel they need to make up for the lack of contrast -- but i am a big proponent of capturing what you see... if the light is blue -- let it be blue!!! the northern regions are special in this regard... check out the Norwegian panorama i sent out the other week... all blues and violets!!! you only get that up near the arctic!!! :) grouser from Ludlow, United KingdomIt's interesting how inviting these pictures look. 30 Dec 2008 4:42pm @grouser: yes -- but it would be a beautiful death!! ;) Steve Rice from Olympia, United StatesAnother fabulous shot of this mainly frozen land. It has a haunting beauty to it that you've captured so well. 30 Dec 2008 4:46pm Yvonne S. from Tilburg, NetherlandsI can't choose!! That is an amazing landscape and you got it just right. 30 Dec 2008 5:14pm james from portland, United StatesSo near yet so far, to get across the water to the otherside as your photo here seems to suggest (to me), it's moving and it's cold. Another nice winter shot. 30 Dec 2008 5:49pm JJ from Jersey City, United StatesAnother spectacular capture of this amazing landscape, So beautiful 30 Dec 2008 6:18pm Suzanne from Huntington Bch, United StatesA splendid scene. Why those different tonalities, bright white, bluish? Snow, ice? 30 Dec 2008 9:29pm @António Pires: howdy mate, cheers! and yes: snow, hard ice, soft ice, some sort of slush... some of it dirty, much of it pristine... plus the low winter lighting. all of it combines to make these radically soft colors... vivid hues that are not seen in the middle latitudes!! that is why i bear the cold -- its the only way i can soak in this type of scenery, and it does my soul loads of good!! :) philib from dijon, FranceBelle ambiance et jolies photos, bravo et bonnes fêtes. 30 Dec 2008 9:44pm Richard_Irwin from Belper, United KingdomFantastic and quite unreal to us people a little to the south of Iceland who never see things like these, great stuff. 30 Dec 2008 10:04pm Alivia from FranceOn ne peut s'arrêter de regarder cette photo tant elle est belle, les ombres de la glace dans le miroir de l'eau..il s'en dégage un calme absolu, une quiétude que seuls les grands espaces peuvent donner..on aimerait entendre les clapotis de l'eau et le bruit du silence.. 30 Dec 2008 10:31pm DarkElf from Perth, Australiabesides the colours it is the perfectly still water that really makes this shot for me - it is just like a mirror! as the summer has arrived here, looking at these photos cools me down just a little bit ;-) 30 Dec 2008 11:27pm Fliss from Melbourne Beach, United StatesAs usual... an excellent shot... makes me want to go there... 31 Dec 2008 1:10am John Maslowski from Dallas, PA, United StatesAbsolutely beautiful, love the clear ice and reflections.
