Me & My Blue Aura (Self Portrait 2007)

what?? another self portrait you say?!? ;)
not to fear -- i am just laying the ground work for SELF PORTRAIT DAY on the 29TH OF OCTOBER (see below)... and wouldn't it be nice to know a bit about each other once we officially 'meet'? i think Marion had a wonderful idea when she mentioned that it would be great to know where each person originally hails from, and what their heritage is... (of course if you don't want to get personal, that is perfectly fine too!) so since someone needs to start it all off, i will go first! (but don't worry -- i am planning another 'creative' self portrait for the 29th -- working on it now!!)
here's my mini bio:
i don't know where i came from, most likely no one does. i was left anonymously on the doorstep of an orphanage in Saigon, sometime during the beginning of the Vietnam war. i assume my parents were boat people who couldn't afford me -- either that or a young, single mother forced to give me up because she didn't have the provisions to care for me. but it doesn't really matter what the real story is -- i quite like the mystery, it fuels me. i was adopted into the USA just as Saigon fell to the North: no one knew my age or heritage -- i didn't even have a birth certificate or a proper name. thus, i was given a new name, a doctor made an educated guess at my real age, and growing up in my new family, i learned to live with my dark mysterious past... eventually, i came to terms with never being able to know facts about myself that most take for granted. however, i should mention that i whole-heartedly adopted the 'scorpio' zodiac sign. of course, this was after 'trying on' most of the others with no success (!) ;)
fast forward --> 33 years later...
i am on the brink of 35 years of age and i feel no true ties to any one country (though i do love Australia with all my heart). even after all my traveling, i still haven't been back to Vietnam, which does seem a bit strange if i think about it -- but it just hasn't happened yet. now, however, i see the whole planet as my true home, as well as my infinite playground. i consider myself a 'world citizen' and have been anxiously awaiting the day our ridiculously immature cultures give up their various land wars and come to peaceful terms as one human race -- therefore liberating every individual on the globe to work where they want, live where they want, play where they want and love who they want... without restraints... i am still waiting, patiently.
until that time comes, i make do -- traveling to as many places as i can afford (between stretches of the regular 9-5), looking for that underlying connection we all share as essential human beings. ...that magical sparkle in the eyes; the glowering knowledge of the presence of spirit -- the eternal drive for absolute creation, the understanding of the miracle that is life in all of its forms and the imperative need to cultivate and protect it. needless to say, experiencing the 'many and varied facets of life' is my sole philosophy, and i pursue it to the best of my creative ability, avidly collecting knowledge, memories, people, music, places, ideas and images to ponder, cherish and share.
well, that is me in a nut shell -- and it is a pleasure to meet you!! can't wait to see and hear about you all on the 29th!!! :D
