Self Portrait w/ Silica Mud Mask, Iceland

hehe -- ok, it had to be done... it has been 5 months since i have been on the site... i probably could have done it awhile ago... but when i decided to 'break' from Alaska... i knew something would come to me. and then today, it just made sense! after bluechameleon, laurie, kylie, rhys, seb, veronelle and ... (i think i am forgetting a few people) so successfully posted their self portrait pics... i think it is time for me to join the fray! i only wish we had organized a themed 'self portrait' day so we can all really get a good glimpse of each other -- after all, how many hours do we spend peeping each other's sites each night? ;) i feel like i have known many of you for years!!!
anyways, this was taken 1.5 years ago with a point and shoot camera while semi immersed in the blue lagoon... i had been in for probably a good 2 hours and was feeling pretty sublime! can't wait to do it all again in 6 weeks! yahoo!
**note: the silica mud comes from the geothermal vents in the lagoon and can be found at the bottom under your feet in places and in rocky crevices. luckily -- as it is tough to bring up without washing out of your hand, they have wooden containers of it available in locations so you can cover yourself in it!!! just DON'T get it in your eyes!!!

Well Dj where do I start!!!!! Always thought You were a man, man. Love this self portrait and I think the idea of a self portrait day is a great one maybe for christmas aabout the 20th Dec or another date before people go away on holiday. You look much like I expected except for the moustache

@jamesy: Thanks Deb!! ;) what about a self portrait for Halloween? That way people can either do regular self portraits or they can do them dressed up? Then we should have another one around the holidays!!! We could even do a self portrait theme a few time a year! (ok -- maybe i am getting carried away now!) Let me know what you think!!

hey dj, nice to see you! Some people try to desaturate pictures to make a good B&W, you have done this one in natural B&W thanks to this mask! Congratulations. Well, I won't dare to show myself, but maybe with a mask is a good idea! Anyway, a very nice self portrait.

@10Fraction: thanks mate but i have to confess -- hehe -- i converted this to b/w and then messed with the RGB hues til i got a tone that is basically the color of my skin!! so the skin tone is right!! ;) all the rest is tweaked! ...so you wouldn't be willing to post a self portrait? really? but you take such splendid shots -- it would be amazing!! sorry, just giving you a hard time! (it is easy now that i have exposed myself!) *wink* have a good night too!! cheers!!

Good to meet you DJ. Never thought you were anything but a man with an incredible imagination. I had no idea what you might look like although we are prone to conjur up images. I think if we do a self portrait which I'm all for even though I do not like pictures of me we should give a little back ground like where we hale from. You know, Ireland, Pakistan, native American etc.

That's a cool photo, Jay. Is that mud good for your skin? It looks like it would help to dry out oily skin and scrub old cells away. I really like the way you've processed it, too, similar to a color photo that has aged in to b&w.
I guess not many people click the "about" link at the bottom of our pages; I knew what you looked like a while back! I should post a proper self-portrait, as the image on my about page is one that I vectorized with Stanford's Vector Magic, giving it a cartoonish look. I'm traveling out of town to visit an old school friend I haven't seen in 25 years this weekend, so I'll probably have a few of me then.

I presume that that silica mask serves any purpose other than doing self-portraits (eternal youth?). I can't imagine you doing the same in Anaktuvuk with seal oil instead of silica.:)

Very artistic - I like it! I've been to the blue lagoon and it's very soothing, the mud is supposed to help with people's psoriasis. It also makes a good mask!

@Twelvebit: Haha -- yep it is true. Because i am of mixed unknown origin, i find that different angles of myself draw out different 'looks'... many time i see myself differently depending on where the camera is. ;)
