Lilli Over Yonder -- Out Takes #1Posted by dj.tigersprout (New York City, United States) on 24 August 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. this week i have chosen to break from Wadi Rum desert shots as i prepare for my long weekend (Labor Day for us here in the USA), 5 day trip back to Alaska on Thursday evening. so for the next few nights i am posting 'out takes'... shots that don't neatly fit into any sort of 'series'... but that i like just the same! they come from all manner of places, local and abroad and represent interior 'moments' where something was happening on a much deeper and subtle level within me... times when my soul on 'auto pilot' was taking the pictures... i certainly did not notice it at these various time, but in looking back over my photo collections, they are always there, easy for me to spot as they have a specific nonconforming style all their own... hope you enjoy them! cheers! all work protected by Creative Commons

@jamesy: Thanks Deb -- and yes, i would say that 'alone' is definitely a significant part... however if i may tweek it just a bit to say 'comfortably alone'... than that would be what i was feeling -- philosophical, introspective, open -- all of those wonderful things and feelings that happen when the modern world around you 'ceases' to exist... even if only for a few thirst quenching seconds...! ;) Kylie Greenan from Richmond, AustraliaIt often amazes me what memories an image brings back to us or what we subconciously capture that we don't see till later when we look at them carefully, it's wonderful that you recognise them and cherrish them as like you say, our soul seems to capture them on some level and that itself is art. Hope you enjoy your long weekend DJ! 24 Aug 2008 5:13am @Kylie Greenan: Thanks Kylie! I most certainly will -- as much as i possibly can! I really want to scale one of those mountains that were close by... i can only imagine the view from the top! :) 4 days and counting down! yay! Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United StatesA lovely feel and composition here, DJ. Enjoy your holiday and bring us back some surprises - as only you can! 24 Aug 2008 5:18am @Stephen Phillips: Thanks Stephen -- i have no idea what i am going to do... but i think i am prepared for just about anything...! not much longer now! i hope this week flies! :) Linerberry from Sumner, Christchurch, New Zealand'Contemplating infinity' is what springs to mind with this shot dj! Marvellous image. Happy travelling dj, have fun and enjoy the moment:-) 24 Aug 2008 7:15am @Linerberry: Ooh -- marvelously put Liners! Very suiting!! :) I think that is what my soul does on a daily basis... now if only i can hone the camera in to taking pictures more and more in this state... -- in fact my favorite pictures always has that element present... i probably should have stated that the reason i love taking photos so much is that i actually have the ability to interface w/ my soul and subconscious via the camera... it just takes about an hour or so to 'warm' up... these short trips bring not only back into touch with myself and world reality... but also to the amazing modern instrument called the camera! nanne from NetherlandsI was for a moment on your site. A very nice site! I come from Fryslan, alias a part of Holland. I invite you to visit my site too. Greetings, Nanne 24 Aug 2008 9:05am Namaki from Bordeaux, Francememories !!! wish you an axcellent weekend ! lucky you who'll come back with so many great shots ! 24 Aug 2008 10:37am @Namaki: thanks Namaki! i certainly look forward to the trip! hope the weather is nice and the light too! don't know what to expect really... what an adventure! :) Evelyne Dubos from Le Mans, FranceA big moment in the loneliness of the countryside... a nostalgic mood also... 24 Aug 2008 11:25am nanne from NetherlandsOh thank you for the compliments!!! They are digging for sea-worms. They need them for fishing. thanks and have a fine weekend, 24 Aug 2008 11:31am zOOm from Paris, FranceHave a nice time ! Great colours on the ground... quite similar with Wadi Rum... 24 Aug 2008 11:53am @zOOm: Thanks Florence -- it should be grand! i am pretty much ready... now i only have to wait the 4 days til i go! :) Lorraine from CanadaSplendid Dj, sure tells a story...:) have a blast, and bring back that creative genius of yours with even more to regal us with, or not lol 24 Aug 2008 12:05pm @Lorraine: Thanks Lorraine! hehe -- yep, well my camera is packed and like always, i will hope for the best! if all else fails -- i will at least have wonderful tales to tell! ;) willow from Chelsea, United StatesI know those moments you are talking about - when really something other than intellect is in charge of the camera. Those moments are where the most interesting photos often come from - like this one. It's wonderfully composed and leads the imagination off somewhere unknown... Technically, the texture of the ground contrast swell with the blue sky and the colors are deep and rich and wonderful!. 24 Aug 2008 1:05pm @willow: Thanks Willow -- and yes -- you are exactly right... no intellect is involved, and then i realize the shutter has just clicked away... that is when i know i have gotten used to looking through the camera at the world... and i no longer have to 'line' things up... i see what the camera sees... and then it just happens! :) Terre Mavix Chartrand from Kitchener, CanadaThe colour richness is wonderful. I like looking at this shot and trying to imagine the landscape beyond. I have always had a vivid imagination and like to think about the ideal beyond what is seen, especially when someone is cresting over the hill. About the automatic writing: rare and lucky for you! (Hah!! That sounded so ego-centric but people don't usual get to participate so closely in others' subconscious unless they have either hypnotised or shared sleep with them! :) ) Okay, I am just trying still to make up for my embarrassment at leaving such a peculiar message!!! 24 Aug 2008 3:21pm @Terre Mavix Chartrand: Thanks Terre -- yes, me also -- regarding the vivid imagination part -- and your son is going to be an artist, if not an artist and philosopher -- he is going to have incredible depth and inquisitive curiosity for life -- he'll get it in part from you no doubt! :) Michael Skorulski from Cigel, SlovakiaI like the air of thoughtive reflection. I really like such places. 24 Aug 2008 3:46pm Calusarus from St Sorlin en Valloire, FranceA special mood on this shot (maybe the grass color). I like it a lot… 24 Aug 2008 4:04pm Paco Díaz from Palma de Mallorca, SpainVery suggestive image. Well composed and good colors. 24 Aug 2008 5:08pm @Paco Díaz: Thank Paco! And yes -- thursday i head back -- but it should be much warmer -- i'll just need a sweat shirt and maybe a windbreaker... i hopefully won't need gloves or anything like that! it will be awesome to be able to interact w/ the environment with my bare hands! :) paulski from Muncie, IN, United Statesi do love the colors on this one, dj. can't beleive your actually going back to the cold of alaska, though i can't wait to see the shots, either... 24 Aug 2008 5:51pm @paulski: hehe -- yep, i am going back -- shouldn't be so bad at this time... maybe 60's? even 50's would be enjoyable! anything will be better than -25 degrees fahrenheit!! :) Graham Russon from Cape Town, South AfricaWhat a great shot, the mood is perfectly captured. Nice one. 24 Aug 2008 8:02pm Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomIntriging.... one wonders what decision is about to be made, or is it merely a moment of thought? A lonely mood filled shot. 24 Aug 2008 8:50pm Marhilde from Geraardsbergen, Belgiumtaking pictures by feel, gives the most beautiful pictures. Pictures with a feeling, with a story.... 24 Aug 2008 8:53pm Rui from Leiria, PortugalWhat's a photo? What can be a photo? Probably if we ask 10 different people, we will get 10 different answers... Can it a memory? A frozen moment? A fragment from the past? 24 Aug 2008 10:23pm akarui from Kagoshima, JapanThere is a nice texture and colors in the foreground, then we follow the track ending in a nice curve where there is a person watching the see and the coast. A beautiful place for having a walk. 24 Aug 2008 11:01pm Carlos Palma from San Juan, PhilippinesI'll be climbing one of our many mountains soon too DJ! Thank you for taking me along with you on your journeys. 25 Aug 2008 1:52am bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaFantastic perspective and vantage point. I love the small figure at the top...ti just shows us how small we are in this huge world. It's really quite amazing and it's making me think....thanks for this DJ. I look forward to your 'out takes'...which are more like 'in takes' for me :) 25 Aug 2008 4:31am Michael Rawluk from Williams Lake, BC, CanadaA wonderful shot. It reminds me of times of lonely contemplation. 25 Aug 2008 4:29pm @Michael Rawluk: Thanks Michael -- yes -- that is exactly what this picture speaks to me of... a beautiful sort of inner peace! Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesLucky you! Don't forget to bring your camera ;) 25 Aug 2008 4:36pm @Howard F.: Thanks and will do! In fact, if I remember nothing else i will certainly remember the camera! ;) baobab from Cambridge, United Statesnice shot. funnily I took a couple of similar shots on a hike during our recent newfoundland trip. there's something about the figure at the crest of the hill... enjoy your alaska trip - will look forward to seeing some great shots from that. 25 Aug 2008 5:14pm |
