Into the Cold, Arctic Sky (Homeward Bound)

The ascent was pretty steady and quick, the light plane making its way easily through multiple layers of icy mists and frozen, static fogs. For a while, i couldn't see much of anything through the small windows and concentrated instead on the gentle and relaxing hum of the engine. Finally, we lifted out of the uppermost wispy cloud layers and suddenly we were on top of the world! above us the crystalline stars simply sparkled in space... and below us a vast sea of white stretched seemingly in every direction obscuring the mountains below. however, i had a spectacular view of the slight curving of the earth and the dim empty sky as it stretched south to the middle latitudes where the bright glows of white and yellow meant the sun was already high in those skies.

Just as i was resolute in not being able to get a shot of these majestic and icy mountains from above, the cloud bank below us suddenly parted and i was afforded this miraculous ariel view of the cold and beautifully desolate Arctic Brooks Range. My camera pointed due south, here you are able to see the waning moon in the upper right and the warm spectrum of light that fills the upper middle to upper left of the frame... daylight had again come to North America, but here in the Arctic winter outskirts, only an ethereal afterglow would be visible... it was approximately 10:35AM.

This is my final picture for this 21 hour Arctic series -- Thanks to all of you for tuning in over the last 3 weeks -- your numerous and wonderful comments, feedback and support has been truly amazing and i thank you all kindly! :D

i am still badly behind in my replies and for that i do apologize. i will make my best efforts to answer all of you inquiries as quick as possible. thank you all again!!
