Ocean Crossing Sign, Augusta, Western AustraliaPosted by dj.tigersprout (New York City, United States) on 14 July 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. Appearing as if a childhood summer camp memory, this photo is really only 3 years old... Taken during my 4 month residence in Western Australia (WA) on a disposable camera at the South Western most point of land, this location marks the joining of the Indian Ocean w/ the Southern Ocean -- an idea wholly exotic to this California native that grew up with only the freezing Pacific. The waters here were diverse and teeming with life beautiful and deadly -- sting rays, manta rays, all colors of coral, venomous sea snacks and tropical fish. These waters also were home to swarms of mako & hammerheads, white tip sharks, great white sharks, the tiny but deadly blue-ringed octopus, gigantic whale sharks, sea horses, extremely rare leafy sea dragons... you name it. With just about 300 days a year of unadulterated sun WA is one of the sunniest places on the planet...! And as an interesting geographic tidbit, if you were to dig a hole (just off this coast) and kept digging until you hit the other side, guess where would come up? Washington DC!!! Now tell me, how crazy-cool is that? :) all work protected by Creative Commons
