Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, San Francisco

This is a shot of the beautiful MLK memorial located behind the Metreon complex in downtown San Francisco. Whenever i have friends visiting from out of town I usually bring them here -- often to catch a movie at the end of a long day of touring the city, but also to cruise through the amazingly well laid out gardens this park affords and of course to experience this beautifully constructed monument complete w/ cascading falls.

To the left of the falls above the handrail, the eerie blue glow of the artsy Yerba Buena Center -- always colorfully lit at night -- is just visible. Then directly through the open space to the right of the closest cascade, you can catch a small glimpse of the brightly lit, walk-through gallery showcasing some of MLK's most historic quotes presented in marvelously illuminated, thick, carved green glass panels.

Accompanied by the powerful and liberating roar of the 12 foot falls, the low golden lighting and the light clouds of spray and mist, a 10 minute stroll through this incredible place is definitely one of the most historically respectful and emotionally reflective experiences San Francisco has to offer.
