Dusk Falls, Sydney Harbour, Australia

One of my favorite things about Sydney is the amazingly large and stunningly beautiful harbour. Whether the sun is out turning the green and turquoise waters semi transparent, or whether it is overcast and rainy, the harbour maintains its unblemishable magnificence. The voyage between the city and Manly wharf is exactly 30 minutes -- plenty of time to grab a short nap, read a significant number of pages of an intriguing book, make a few necessary phone calls, take some pictures (of course) or just sit and watch the beautiful scenery. Sailboats of all sizes, fishing boats, gigantic cruise ships, jetcats, and ferries all share these waters... the harbour is a veritable place to see and be seen. This shot was taken on the ferry from Manly township to Circular Quay just as Autumn dusk was falling, turning the skies from a brilliant true blue to gradual shades of deep orangish yellow.

@bluechameleon: Thank you for the awesome 'powerful and subtle' comment! :) As for this pic... not quite sure how i got the result i did (?) to me it appears as if i used a wide angle lens... but i don't have one! (i want one though!). The harbour of Sydney is soooo expansive... sooo much water... blue and green waters everywhere! It really is a wonderful place.

Oh yes, as a Sydneysider, I recognise this view of course! There's Sydney tower in the distance. The clouds and the excellent framing literally "save the day" here. Very skillfully done.

@Andrew Gould: Many thanks for all the wonderful comments Andrew -- very kind! :) Yes, wasn't sure what sort of results i would get from this photo... the ferry was moving around considerably on ocean swells... and i know i, myself, move around quite a bit even when i think i am standing perfectly still! so i wasn't really thinking i would get a result i was happy with... the sky was so captivating that evening...!! i decided to focus on the sky to minimize whatever movement might happen... i got very very lucky! :)
