Biblical Visions, Wadi Rum, JordanPosted by dj.tigersprout (New York City, United States) on 9 June 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. For sunset on the eve of my only night in Wadi Rum, i was taken to a beautiful ridge of sand to view the waning light. The sky was almost violet above the horizon... i had a wonderful 360 degree view of the surround areas... there was a light, warm wind and my guide and i sat in comfortable silence enjoying the daily but magical phenomenon of night fall in the desert. Of course i didn't sit perfectly still... I had work to do! :) all work protected by Creative Commons

dobbino from Cape Town, South AfricaAnother superb mood shot. This does look like a great place to visit. 9 Jun 2008 6:20am @dobbino: Thanks Rob, yeah the lighting was amazing at this moment. I am glad the shot came out so well looking directly into the sun. :) Mike from Lichfield, United KingdomFrom the photos I've seen Jordan looks like a lovely place to visit. Great picture you've taken here. 9 Jun 2008 7:03am @Mike: Cheers mike -- yes, jordan was simply amazing... if you ever get the chance, jump on it! :) @zOOm: Thanks! But i wish the amazing violet lighting had come out better... but i guess looking directly into the sun has a way of killing a lot of the ambient lighting. :) @Alun Lambert: Sincere thanks mate! @Hamed: Thanks mate... deserts are wonderful at sunrise and sunset! @bm: Cheers mate, it was a great experience! @Dhini: Thank you! yiannis krikis from thessaloniki, Greeceexcellent landscape - great lighting balance 9 Jun 2008 1:07pm @yiannis krikis: Thanks for all the comments Yiannis! Greatly appreciated! @saeed: Cheers mate! @Paul van der Meer: Thank you kindly! Chris from South Jersey, United StatesBeautiful colors - so peaceful. The lighting is wonderful and your composition is very nice. Well done. 9 Jun 2008 2:08pm @Chris: Cheers Chris -- the stillness was simply mind blowing... my 24 hours in the desert was like one long meditation. blissful. Condemna from Barcelona, SpainI like the composition very much, it makes it original, which is good because too often desert shots are copies seen again and again 9 Jun 2008 3:59pm @Condemna: Thank you kindly! I stepped out of my bounds with this shot as well, the whole time wondering if the shot would even turn out. I wouldn't normally take a direct pic of the sun as it tends to 'bleach' the results. There was minor bleaching in the end result -- the colors are not as strong, but i was quite happy with the capture as there is still an adequate amount of detail in the foreground. I am glad i made the attempt after all! Thanks as always for the comments! Tamara from Fort Myers, Fl, United StatesWow, this is a stunning sunset! What beautiful colors, and I love how the leaning branches sort of frame the sun. :) 9 Jun 2008 4:31pm @Tamara: Thanks for the comment Tamara! The sunset lasted about 30 minutes due to all the dust in the air above the horizon... the colors were magnificent. It was a beautiful experience! @HoMo: cheers mate! thanks much! @bruno: Cheers mate, thanks for the comments! It was blissfully cool by this time due to the startup of some easterly winds... but earlier is was quite hot and the heat that was evaporating back into the sky made for some brilliant mirages on the sand. Fogguy from San Francisco, United StatesBeautiful DJ. And you point to the conscious photographers quandary - whether to sit or to go for the tripod. There are times (not to frequent) that I consciously leave the camera in the car and take the moment at heart. Thank you for this image and the work you do. 9 Jun 2008 9:22pm @Fogguy: Many thanks for the wonderful comment Stephen! :) I've actually come to this hobby quite late... and it was the recent 'discovery' of the modern digital camera that really gave me the kick i needed to finally pursue photography as a serious endeavor. As i was trained in painting and printmaking, i am having to teach myself the technical aspects as i photograph... using the location and situational elements as my only lesson plans. Luckily i love traveling and this inspires me to attempt to capture the world as i have always seen it: amazing, mysterious, colorful, diverse, perfect... but to conclude I really appreciate the awesome inspiration and support i have gotten from yourself and other aminus3 community members. So cheers for that!! himan from tehran, Irannice shot...........and good expose.........that was not the self portrait.......tnx 9 Jun 2008 10:44pm @himan: Thanks mate! akarui from Kagoshima, JapanBeautiful light and colors on the desert. I like it. 10 Jun 2008 1:54am @akarui: Than you! :) Naren from Middletown, CT, United StatesMy shot of the sunset was nothing. Yours looks absolutely awesome! 10 Jun 2008 3:16am @Naren: haha... thank you! :) but the two shots are totally different. your shot is intense, rugged, and saturated w/ varied lighting. my shot is more refined... it is much less intense and is taken a few minutes before the sun goes down. the lighting is more static... but i have worked my way through your portfolio just and there some really amazing and lovely shots there. keep up the wonderful work! :) DarkElf from Perth, Australiafantastic mood in the photo created by good use of soft light... very thoughtful and a well titled! 10 Jun 2008 5:11am @DarkElf: cheers for all the comments mate! very appreciated! :) are you posting today? haven't seen something from you for a few days now? :) got any more shots of western australia? albany? esperence? denmark? i so love that whole coastline! such gorgeous landscapes... and the waters and rock formations are simply stunning!
