@MahGol: i was really trying to find a way to bring a slice of rock back with me... had to settle for a photo instead! :(

Hi dj :) many thanks for all your kind comments on observing I appreciate that. This rock formation is amazing with all the different layers of minerals and metals. I envy you visiting Petra, it's a place I've always wanted to visit too. Super photo !

@Observing: No worries mate, thanks! Definitely keep Petra on your 'MUST SEE' list... it will knock your socks off! The desert there is absolutely amazing, the colors rich and brilliant... but best of all... the people of Jordan are simply beautiful, very humble and extremely kind hearted... if nothing else, go for the humanitarian experience!

It's a good thing we weren't asked to guess what this is! (My first thought was, "Is that a pile of salmon???") Amazing color and a very strange rock formation indeed. As design/art, it's a neat photo, although I would like to see another shot containing something that would put the size of the formation in perspective - can't tell if this is a macro shot or a view of something much larger.

@Wizened Eye: Thanks for the interest! Actually this isn't a macro but a simple close up i took of the rock just in front of me. The wall face was quite huge though, so i could have zoomed out to capture more of it... however i wanted the interesting and subtle texture on the rock surface (see the light 'scratch' lines?) i should have another photo that might give a more understandable scale -- will have to search for it!

Wonderful colors - sounds like Petra is an amazing place to visit (not sure I will ever get there though!). You really captured these unusual rocks well - keep it up!!

@Chris: Thanks for the comment! Jordan is a good distance away... but only 10 hours for you as you are on the east coast! It was basically 17 for me! :)

I like these sorts of rocks with incredible colors and curves, it makes great colorful and abstract pictures. Have you seen mine from Antelope Canyon on my portfolio (3,4,5 et 6 avril) ?

@lissa: Many thanks! I don't yet own photoshop, so all the color comes from the natural colors of Jordan's landscapes... I saw such intense colors there!
